Meet Scott McCullough

Scott McCullough was introduced to Special Olympics at eight years old. 40 years later, Scott is still an active athlete, having trained in athletics, bowling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and softball. Now representing Special Olympics USA in the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025, he will compete in snowshoeing. From 2011-2014, Scott served on the Special Olympics New Hampshire Board of Directors, and he continues to advocate for his fellow athletes.

For 12 years, McCullough has hosted his own video series, “Special Talk with Scott McCullough.” Recorded and produced with BRB TV LLC, Nashua Public Television Channel 96, he hosts Special Olympics New Hampshire coaches and athletes to educate the community about inclusivity. Scott is also an ambassador for Best Buddies and attended the Best Buddies Leadership Conference in 2023. Traveling to Italy, he excited to show the world what he can do.   Way to go Scott! 

Meet RJ Bassett

Master Patrol Officer R.J. Bassett, a dedicated member of the Laconia Police Department since 2013, is no stranger to giving back to his community. As a passionate supporter of the Special Olympics New Hampshire, he has been participating in the Law Enforcement Torch Run—a tradition that highlights law enforcement’s commitment to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their achievements for over a decade.

Now, Bassett is preparing to bring his commitment to a new level—internationally. In March 2025, he will represent New Hampshire in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final Leg at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy. The Final Leg will serve as the official prelude to the Opening Ceremony, an experience that Bassett eagerly anticipates, calling it “pretty electric.” RJ will also get to observe the once-in-a-lifetime moment of witnessing the torch being blessed by the Pope in Rome before its lighting in Athens, Greece signifying the start of the games.
